Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
Recently, at a prayer conference, I received a handout from Terry Teykl with ideas for breaking down the Lord’s prayer. Since then, through practice and study – I have been SO BLESSED by the direction the Lord has given me in this area.
Notice in your text of Matthew 6, Our Lord’s introduction to this prayer: “This, then is how you should pray:”
Christ is teaching his followers HOW to pray. The specific words are powerful, indeed, because they are from His lips. But He is also teaching us how to order our prayers. There is so much to learn here and dig into. I’ve been digging for some time, and will continue to. I’ve challenged my prayer team to create a Lord’s prayer specific to our city’s needs and we are praying it every day at noon – wherever we are.
What a powerful idea! Followers of Christ joining symbolic hands in prayer all over the world at the same time every day – to storm the gates of hell and love our world to Jesus Christ! Unity in specific prayer is powerful.
Will you join us! Pray at noon – and watch His kingdom come down!
