How to Pray Against Fear and Fight the Battle for Your Children

Only day three, and I’ve already been drawn by God to rearrange my posts for an immediate prayer need. I pray this post is a huge blessing to a parent or loved one who sees a need for prayer in someone they love in the area of fear. Even if that someone is you.

My daughter has struggled with a bit of fear over the last year, but I’ve noticed a sharp increase just recently. In addition to nightmares, she is sometimes afraid for seemingly no reason.

As believers, we must be aware that fear is not from the Lord, and our enemy surely wants to strike fear in the hearts of all people.

My husband and I have seen great improvements in our own sleep when we pray a certain prayer from our favorite warfare resource, The Adversary, before bedtime. But this past week I saw the immediate need for a tailored prayer over my daughter.

I’ve copied it below, and want to mention that it can be tailored for any person tormented by fear in any way. Just insert the name of the person – and believe on the name of our good and faithful Lord to answer and protect.

Scripture is the most powerful punch you can place into your tailored prayers. Any subject or need can be covered by applying specific verses. A great author I often turn to for various topic needs is Stormie Omartian. Some pieces of the prayer below I actually took from her book, The Power of a Praying Wife.

Heavenly Father,

You said in your Word that perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:18) Lord, I take up my shield of faith on behalf of my daughter, _________, and pray that you would bestow upon her the mind of Christ. (1 Cor. 2:16) and perfect her in love through a personal relationship with you. I thank you for drawing her to yourself with your Spirit of love and protection.

I thank you, Merciful God, that your mercy extends to those who fear you, from generation to generation (Lk 1:50) and your righteousness is with their children (Ps. 103:17). I thank you that the generations after me will be known for the name of the Lord our God.

Lord, you have given me authority over all the power of the enemy (Lk 10:17) – by that authority given to me in Jesus Christ, I command all lying spirits away from _________’s mind. I rebuke any spirit of fear oppressing her. I claim that torment has no place in her mind. I pray that your peace, which passes all understanding, will guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6,7)

Father, I pray that your unfailing love would be __________’s comfort (Ps 119:76) and that she will seek you all the days of her life. I pray what the enemy has meant for harm would be the very area of anointing in which she will proclaim your great Name.

Oh, Lord, you are my strength and my song. I thank you that you will never leave nor forsake your child, _________. May she be filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1:11) and, being rooted and established in love, may she know with all assurance how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ for her. (Eph. 3:18)

I will be working to attach google docs or similar for printable prayers soon. Blessings today!

  1. Thank you for this. I prayed it over my sister-in-law who just moved to Papua New Guinea with her husband and five children in September. There have already been spiritual battles for them, so I sent it to her to arm her for the battles against her children.
