How to Really Fix Your Eyes on Jesus

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us RUN….

with perseverance

the race marked out before us. Let us

FIX. OUR. EYES.

on JESUS,

the author and perfector of our faith..” Heb. 12:1-2a

Fix: to make firm, stable or stationery. To attach definitely, establish.

It’s an unmoved faith that wins the battle.

“Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you.” Prov. 4:25

Because you fix on Him long enough, attach your faith to the truth of His Word instead of the circumstances you feel, oh you will start to gaze upon Him.

Establish: to put into a favorable position. (Oh yeah); To put beyond doubt; prove.

Have you established Him?

Is He as real as the chair you’re sitting on?

David set the Lord always before Him. (Ps. 16:8)

To set is to literally place in position. Can you close your eyes and place Him there.

“And Elisha prayed, ‘O LORD, open his eyes so he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17

There is so much around us we cannot see. With our physical eyes.

Is Christ really always with you, right beside you, never leaving you? Literally.

This is real vision: Choosing to SEE the reality of Christ with you.

To prove your faith, it must best tested. And all real testing comes when you cannot see with your eyes what you want so much with your heart – to believe.

He must bring all ardent disciples here. To the place of blind faith. Because zeal is important. But He knows you will need more than zeal.

“Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’….

Then Jesus said,

“I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” John 21:17b-18

Here Christ is saying, I know you believe, Peter. And I get that I’m your friend. But that kind of love – that level of zeal – it’s not going to cut it in the long haul.

He knows what is ahead of us. His calling is great.

We will need more than small love, small attention to His Word, His face.

So He let Peter fail. Because sometimes falling, testing is the only way we SEE beyond our own naked ability and striving for righteousness.

He wants to be proved faithful TO YOU. That’s a test that will not fail.

But we cannot look with our physical eyes. We must believe with our heart.

And this is how we FIX our eyes – our face – like FLINT towards Him:

We choose to see the reality of His Word. All around us.

With the only eyes that really matter: the eyes of our heart.

And because His Word says He is with me, even now  – and always – I see Him. Nudging me on.

To run.

This race marked out before me.

And all of life will present these billboards along the road. Grabbing for our attention. Our heart. Our eyes.

He is ahead. Calling us.

Fix. Your. Eyes.
